A touch of Spring amidst our Autumn Journey

Prior to it's associations with Christ's resurrection,
Easter had its roots in ancient Pagan Spring Equinox celebrations

The rabbits and eggs both symbolic of Spring’s fecundity
and the re-emergence of life.

Much like our October adoption of Halloween – where we find ourselves emulating the Autumnal call of the underworld in the height of our Spring - we have found ourselves mirroring the Northern Hemisphere’s celebration in the opposite season.

Here in the Southern Hemisphere, our true ‘Halloween’ will occur at the end of this month.

But the beauty of bringing Easter’s Spring energy into our Autumn, is that the invocation of
Wood – the element of Spring –
compliments our current meditation on
Metal – the element of Autumn.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Metal is seen to control Wood – just as the swing of an axe can fell a tree.

On a psycho-emotional level we emulate this when we take a breath (Metal) to anchor a rising tide of anger (Wood).

Deepening our breath is a powerful tool for attuning us to our feelings and the innate wisdom of our body.

And yet, more often we hold or confine the movement of our breath as a means of avoiding uncomfortable feelings or sensations in our body.

Sometimes it is not just pain that we seek to escape.

Sometimes it is the full-bodied blossoming of our joy and pleasure that may feel unbearable to us.

When we gently expand our tolerance, to meet the full symphony of our emotions and our body’s sensations, we begin to converse with the language of Metal.

It is then that we can allow its wisdom to inform our Wood energy’s capacity to generate the decisions and visions that inspire and propel our life’s direction.

How is your life communicating the symbiotic dance of these two elements?

If I feel my Wood energy is overpowering my Metal sensitivity:
- How can I soften my anger and outrage to reveal more of my underlying vulnerability?

- How can I let go of the vision of what my day/life ‘should’ be like, and come back into what my body is asking of me, right now?

If I feel like my Metal emotionality is affecting the vitality of my Wood’s sense of direction and purpose.
- How can I develop a healthy sense of containment, to hold the presence of strong feelings, whilst honour the bigger-picture of my day?

- How can I create more space to be with the expression of the emotions I deem wrong – particularly that of Anger?

- How does a healthy expression of Anger bring me into touch with my sense of boundaries, directionality and vitality?
